The sturdy design and anti-shake system are good. Plus, the sheer number of knobs and dials means that once you’ve got to grips with them, you hardly need to use the menu system at all. However, the 7D’s image quality is slightly disappointing compared to its rivals and there’s no affordable ‘kit’ lens. Also consider:
Canon EOS 20D
This camera is capable of really fantastic images providing you've the right glass on the front. I think the ergonomics of this camera one of the best, it's a shame Sony didn't think so and have copied the rest. Beware if you are buying one these now as they have an inherant problem, the dreaded black frame which can be a real pain to get fixed. Do your homework if you are buying! I would still recommend this camera as it is a real gem and has an extensive range of quality lenses to choose from.

I've never trusted one particular electronics' "giant"; their ethics stink - of all the companies to sell-out to, did it have to be Sony!

Konica Minolta Dynax Maxxum 7D

Picture quality: Outstanding in both regular and lowlight. Operation: It is one of the easiest cameras to operate! The majority of controls are on the outside so going into the menu is only done on a limited base. Camera build: Outstanding. Battery life: Above average Kit lens: Who judges a camera on this Mickey Mouse? Provided software is weak. Overall impression: A little pricy, but a great camera. As the owner of Konica Minolta Dynax Maxxum 7D I must take issue with the review. Whoever wrote the review either copied the review, or never worked with the camera, in any case I feel the review is totally incorrect.
