The 8800 offers fantastic value for money and, although less flexible than a digital SLR, packs in an impressive array of features. Images are crisp and sharp throughout the focal range and the reliable Matrix metering ensures consistently accurate exposures, although there’s sometimes evidence of fringing. Also consider:

I bought this camera, it was ok, until about 15 months after prchase, it then packed up.... £150 to be repaired! but 13months later it has gone again.
It wasn't too reliable. If not using a tripod, it was hard to get a picture that was not blurred. using macro was ok, if you had a tripod, but wouldn't focus very well without one, had to take umpteen pics of same subject and hope one came out well. getting around the menu was a joke, i often gave up, one day it would be ok, then another day it just went where it wanted, not what I wanted. I am now looking for a new camera, and I can assure you it will NOT be nikon. Despite all that, I did get some amazing photos from it.
