The D60 isn’t so different from the D40x. The main changes are the anti-dust system, the new Nikkor 18-55mm VR kit lens and eye-sensor. The pictures are great, and the picture modes and retouching are impressive. The handling remains a sore point.

My Nikon D60

Reviewer: hans287, Perth , Australia

I have a Nikon D60 now for the past 15 months, I must say that I have been very happy with it. Yes I agree the grip is small, but I have found that if you add the battery clip to the D60 it makes a big difference, in your picture that you take, not to forget, the battery life that you get as well. One thing I do miss, is the function of "bracketing" which the Nikon D60 does not have.

I look at the Canon, Sony etc, but I all ways came back to the Nikon cameras. I would tell any body wishing to buy a easy to use DSLR camera to buy a Nikon D60. If you like to see same of the pictures I have taken, see my website www.photographyaust.com

Having only used point and click pocket cameras before getting the D60 it took some getting used to. After a few weeks of taking pictures of anything and everything I soon moved away from the Auto position and began focusing and composing my own shoots. This is an idea camera for a novice as it is so easy to use. It is not heavy even with the 55-200mm lens. The results are outstanding, well worth the cost a real bargain with Nikons Cash Back Offer a £ 90 reduction off the normal price. This is a great camera and a good point to start from with DSLR.

The body is small compare to Nikon D80 and the thing that i noticed the most is the distinctive red coloured on the grip that 'yelling' Nikon!. Someone that used to handle Compact sure going to need to learn some of the function but nothing that practice can't make ya' perfect. And, i dont have any complaint about the body quality, it's top class.

I found some flaw that anyone who grow with this camera would find cumbersome as their experience grow. Incase you guys didnt know, you notice that D60 has little amount of button than the D80 (sound stupid right) which Nikon didnt add was a dedicated ISO and white balance button. Instead of trying to assign on the 'fn' button, they should have their own place so we user can change setting quickly instead of pushing plenty of button. Other complain was perhaps the mirror lock up function. Unlike in D80, they didnt include this so for those who usually shot macro ended up frustrated or those who shot at long exposure....
