The entry into the SLR market for a first timer is daunting but by buying Konica Minolta’s SLR division Sony aren’t taking any risks. The feel of the A100 is a bit plasticky, but the finish has been enhanced with Sony’s trademark silver function dials on the top-plate. But it has a great anti-shake and anti-dust system.

Loving the Alpha A100

Reviewer: Magoo2124, Manchester, United Kingdom

I finally took the plunge into Digital Photography in March this year and after owning a Practika BMS Electronic and an Olympus OM30 and using several other types of film camera's I was not really looking forward to having to buy one. However after extensive shopping and handling many different makes and models of camera I finally decided to purchase the Alpha A100. The thing that drew my attention to this particular camera is not all the features, accessories and lenses but the weight. I was originally drawn to the Olympus range of Digital camera but unlike many of it's competitors the Alpha A100 has a nice weight to it and feels like you are actually holding a camera and not a piece of plastic. Top buy and would recommend to anyone. The anti shake system allows the Sony to be used at low shutter speeds without the use of a tripod.

Its not the camera

Reviewer: sallehlong, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I bought the camera on April 2007. I use it with Sony standard lens- 18-70mm, Sigma 70-300mm, and twins lenses for macro and wide angle shots. Until now, I believe that this camera has more than what most people think. It is up to the owner to venture and find out its strong points. If you have Alfa 100, dont keep it in the bag. Take it out and tryout in all occasion. You'll be surprised!!

SONY A100 - What a winner!!

Reviewer: AKruger, Rustenburg, South Africa

I bought the SONY A100 at the end of 2006 and have since then take in excess of 12,000 photos. The SONY is an excellent camera and is the best I have used in the 50 years that I have been taking photos. I am not a professional photographer, but a very enthusiastic one. Before I bought the SONY I did some extensive market research and the one thing that stood out is the in-camera IS. This realy works and it allows for the use of standard lenses without IS which is a huge cost saving. In a nutshell FANTABULOUS CAMERA!!

GOOD CAMARA

Reviewer: josueadib, Leon, Mexico

Itis a good camera, before it I had a DSC f828, on November 2007 I bought the Alpha100 and I prove on high shutter speed on WRC, photo studios and more, the result pretty hight quality image, my only gripe is the iso more than 800 bad photos. I use 3 lens 18-200 mm, 70-300mm and 18-70mm...

Nothing Better out there..

I now own both the Sony Alpha 100 and the Alpha 700!
I am TOTAL Sony with TV's, old Mavica's, cel phones, etc.
It doesn't get better than Sony. The Alpha's are FABULOUS...
I thought the 100 was great and now 700 is spectacular........
Stay with Sony!

My first DSLR: Sony alpha and for what I see I'll keep it!

Sony are on to a winner!

I sold my Canon EOS350D and Sigma 50-500 lens to buy the Sony and a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 . The performance is way above that of the Canon, it feels better in your hand, the controls are intuitive and fall naturaly to your finger tips. The metering and picture quality cannot be faulted especialy at low ISO values (possibly better than the Canon) at higher ISO you do get some noise but even ISO800 is acceptable. The Sony RAW converter software is far better than the Canon offering. The kit lens I cannot comment on as I bought the body only, but the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 is on the heavy side but more than makes up for it in stunning performance. The anti shake system the Sony uses is good for at least 2 stops, depending on lighting and lens size, but very noticable if you turn it off!
I can't wait to see what other SLR bodies will be coming forth from the Sony stable.

Great camera

I love this camera! It’s great! The construction of this camera is solid. Good set of features and nice to use and handle. Good quality controls and accurate focus. Used with Minolta lenses on it, gives great pictures.

I have had my A100 for 4 months and I would not chainge anything. I try to use it everyday at least once. It is very easy and very high quality.
